The Story Behind Best Life

Built on the Belief That We Should Live Well as We Age.

Getting older should never mean giving up the life, interests, routines, and independence that make someone who they are.

Best Life was founded by Ayden van Koot after her studies in Gerontology and years working alongside older adults revealed how deeply physical activity, recreation, social connection, and meaningful engagement influence quality of life.

That experience shaped a different kind of aging support—one that begins with the whole person and adapts their environment, routines, and care as life changes.

Whether someone is living independently at home, in retirement living, or in long-term care, our goal remains the same: to protect identity, abilities, connection, and the opportunity to continue living well.

The Whole Person

We consider abilities, interests, routines, relationships, health, and personal goals.

Independence

Support is designed to preserve skills and choice rather than unnecessarily replace them.

A Life That Evolves

Care grows and adapts alongside changing needs while remaining centred on the same person.

The level of support may change. The goal of helping someone continue living well never does.

Our Core Values

The principles that guide how we understand, support, and advocate for every person entrusted to our care.

Living Well,
Every Day

The philosophy at the heart of everything we do.

01

Person-Centred Care

We begin by understanding the person—their story, routines, abilities, preferences, relationships, and goals—before deciding what support should look like.

02

Communication

Families deserve clear, thoughtful, and timely communication so they understand what is happening and feel confident in the support being provided.

03

Respect

Every person's choices, identity, privacy, culture, home, and lived experience are treated with genuine dignity and consideration.

04

Wellness

We look beyond physical care to support cognitive health, emotional well-being, meaningful activity, social connection, and overall quality of life.

05

Fostering Independence

Our role is not to take over unnecessarily. We support clients in continuing to use their abilities, make choices, and participate in everyday life.

06

Advocacy

We help clients and families navigate complex systems, communicate their needs, involve the right professionals, and keep the client's voice at the centre of decisions.

Local Expertise. Personal Relationships.

Best Life was built in Ottawa to serve older adults and families within the communities we know. Our local presence allows us to provide responsive, personalized support while building meaningful relationships with clients, families, healthcare professionals, and trusted community partners.

Because aging support is rarely delivered by one person or service alone, we work collaboratively with professionals throughout Ottawa to help families navigate changing needs, coordinate care, and access the right resources at the right time.

Whether a client is living independently at home, transitioning into a retirement residence, or receiving support in long-term care, our goal remains the same: to help them continue living well within the community that feels familiar to them.
